Jimmy O'Berry wins the Old Mil 30

PANDORA, Oh. — The rains held off just long enough to allow Jimmy O'Berry to win the first race of his career. He owned the night by having the fastest qualifying lap, winning the first heat, and taking the feature's checkered flag. The 2019 Old Milwaukee 30 featured only 5 qualifiers, the lowest number of drivers since the 2017 Taco Bell 200 (Putnam International Trailway's first race).

Several records fell Saturday night:

  • Matt Hermiller's streak of 4 consecutive poles came to an end
  • O'Berry was tied for the most starts without a feature win. That record now stands alone with Zac Cassidy at 4.

Rain started to fall during the last several laps of the feature. This caused the cars to lose a lot of traction, but Jimmy managed to wheel his car to the finish line. He now takes the early lead in the 2019 standings and looks to be a favorite for the championship win. In the previous two years, the winner of the first race went on to take the championship. He will certainly look to repeat that tradition.
