PIT officials set 2020 race schedule
by Matthew Schroeder | www.putnamtrailway.com | May 4th, 2020PANDORA, Oh. — In what would have ordinarily been the opening race weekend, PIT officials have finally set the 2020 racing schedule. "Like everyone else, we've had to make hard schedule decisions due to the Kungflu," track owner Drew Meyer stated. "We intended to release the schedule in March and have our opening race on the first weekend of May. Obviously, that hasn't happened, but we will remain committed to bringing our fans a full five race schedule this year."
The 2020 race schedule is set for the following:
- Taco Bell 200 - June 6
- Old Milwaukee 30 - June 26
- Meyer Invitational 50 - June 27
- Summer Sizzler on 7L - July 25
- Cranberry Nationals - August 29
On the last weekend of June, Putnam International Trailway will host the first ever double race weekend. "We're very excited to hold both the Old Mil 30 and Meyer Invitational 50 on back-to-back nights. This is a first for us and I hope my voice holds out!" said Louis Schulte, track engineer and fan favorite Voice of 7L. "We'd like to remind our out-of-state fans to visit our Area Attractions page for local hotel accommodations and nearby attractions to round out the full weekend."
The Competition Committee did consider possibly hosting virtual races, but quickly dismissed the idea. Charlie Maag, Competition Committee Member and Pace Van Driver, stated "We thought about hosting some virtual iRacing events, like the folks at NASCAR and IndyCar did. But as far as this committee is concerned, if ain't real dirt flyin', it ain't real racin'."
Last week, rumors were hitting social media that a race may still be occurring in May, but Drew Meyer quickly responded on Facebook, "Despite rumors circulating, we are not having a fan or driver attended race tomorrow on the 2nd. We were informed that the governor was possibly assembling the National Guard if a race were to occur. May 2 was supposed to be our season opener, but it will have to wait. However, we are going to release some content at 8pm tomorrow. Stay tuned!".
Indeed the content released was the 2020 schedule. Drew closed out the press conference with this comment, "We have the greatest fans around. No doubt that we are going to race this year, no matter what the governor says, and provide you with the best racing only we can. We have exciting things in store. Stay tuned all you cool cats and kittens."
The full race schedule can be seen on the schedule page.
